Description
Weld Spuds - 150# NPT Threaded 316 Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings - Cast
Female NPT Threaded Weld Spuds (150# Cast 316 Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings) are specialized components used in piping systems for the following purposes:
Corrosion Resistance: Made from 316 stainless steel, these fittings offer excellent resistance to corrosion, particularly in harsh environments involving chemicals or moisture, due to the higher molybdenum content compared to 304 stainless steel. This makes them suitable for sanitary or corrosive applications.
Connecting Piping Systems: These fittings join sections of pipe or other fittings, featuring female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads that connect to male-threaded pipes or components, creating a secure, leak-resistant seal due to the tapered thread design.
Welding for Permanent Installation: The weld spud design includes a flange or base that is welded to a pipe, tank, or vessel, providing a strong, permanent connection. This is ideal for applications requiring a robust, non-bolted seal, such as in brewing kettles or industrial tanks.
Low-Pressure Applications: Rated as Class 150, these fittings are designed for low-pressure systems (up to approximately 300 psi at 150°F, depending on conditions). They are commonly used in industries like food and beverage, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, and water treatment where corrosion resistance and moderate pressure handling are needed
Specific Applications:
Brewing and Food Processing: Often welded to kettles or vessels to attach valves or other fittings, as seen in homebrewing setups where they are Tig-welded to stainless steel surfaces without warping.
Industrial Piping: Used to connect, terminate, control flow, or change the direction of piping in systems handling air, water, oil, or natural gas
Note: The threaded side is typically designed for one-directional threading (from the NPT side), which may limit threading from the flange’s back side, as noted in some user experiences. Always consider the application’s pressure, temperature, and material compatibility when selecting these fittings.
Material Conformance:
- NPT and FNPT threads conform to ASME B1.20.1
- Maximum Pressure: 300 psi @ 72° F
- Maximum Steam Pressure: 150 psi @ 366° F
- 304 stainless castings conform to ASTM A351 ACI Grade CF8
- 316 stainless steel castings conform to ACI Grade CF8M
- Manufacturing facility is ISO 9001:2008
