150# STD Bore Socket Weld Flanges (Flat Face)
150# A/SA105 Forged Carbon Steel Socket Weld Flange - STD /SCH 40 Bore - Flat Face (FF) B16.5
- A socket weld (SW) flange features a socket-like recess (bore) into which a pipe end is inserted. The connection is made by fillet welding the pipe from the inside of the flange (socket) and the outside, providing a strong, leak-resistant joint. It's ideal for smaller pipe sizes (typically 1/2" to 4" NPS) and high-pressure scenarios where welding strength is critical, but it's less common for larger diameters compared to weld neck flanges.
- The sealing surface is completely flat (no raised rim or groove), which distributes gasket pressure evenly. Flat face (FF) flanges are often used in low-pressure systems or with full-face gaskets that cover the entire bolt circle. They're easier to align and less prone to gasket blowout in certain non-critical applications but may not provide as tight a seal as raised face (RF) types in higher pressures.
