Specifications

Widely used for connecting pipes and hoses that carry liquids, powders & granules. A ‘straight through’ connection is made allowing the free flow of substance being moved. It is only limited by the pressure of the application, and the chemical compatibility of the substance being moved with the coupler body and gasket.

Cam couplings have historically been made to the Mil Spec, MIL-C-27487, which has since been superseded by the Federal Standard A-A59326. This ensures compatibility between different product manufacturers also made to spec. The Mil Spec provides various specifications to be adhered to such as: dimensions to be used; ratings for pressure; Materials to be used in manufacture; the methods of casting to be used; tolerances to be followed and the procedures for inspection. Our cam lock fittings are made to abide by the mil spec with regards to dimensions and various ratings. They are tested to ensure the confirm to the approved pressure ratings.

All our cam & groove fittings are manufactured with the ability to lock the handles in place using a safety pin. This ensures the adapter and coupler remain connected.

Working Pressure Ratings (PSI)

Operating pressures are provided only as guidelines for ambient temperatures with elastomeric gaskets. A higher temperature will reduce the pressure rating of the cam lock coupling as will Teflon (PTFE) gaskets. Polypropylene camlock fittings only have a maximum working temperature of 158°F. At this temperature, the working pressures in the table below are to be reduced by an additional 40%. Recently the 4" couplers been made with 4 handles to increase the operating pressure.

Food & Beverage

1/2" Stainless Camlocks are used in Home brew. Dairy farms and Wineries also readily use these fittings in larger sizes.

Maple Syrup

In recent years 1/2" cam lock quick connects have become commonly used for connecting silicon tubing and connecting evaporators in the production of maple syrup.

Diesel and Fuel

Cam lock pipe fittings are used on fuel tankers as a means to connect Fuel lines. All companies that dispense fuel on site will have a fuel pump and often connect the plumbing with quick release couplers. Companies like Tecalemit Inc. who install Fuel dispensers will readily use 2" and 1-1/2" couplers for installation.

Agriculture

Due to their acid resistant qualities, Poly Camlocks are widely used as hose connectors on agriculture sprayers and similar applications.

Oil Distribution

Camlock Hose connectors are used for fuel delivery to service stations and private premises.

Connecting Pumps

Cam lock hose couplings are widely used threaded into pump inlet/outlets. This allows the quick release and quick connection of transfer hose.

Water

Water purification plants and water conditioning plants Like Siemen’s water and RK Water conditioning readily use large pipes and will require kamlock couplings to connect. They are also used for water cooling processes.

Paints

Companies like PPG paints routinely use Stainless couplers due to their suitability for paints, inks & dyes.

Fuel Polishing

When fuel is circulated and pushed through filters for cleaning, camlock hose couplings allow for easy hose connections.

Cleaning

Every industry requires some sort of cleaning and for this water hoses are often required. Cam lock hose connectors allows disconnection of hose for storage purposes.

Military and Government Bids

Made to the new specification A-A-59326, which replaced the US military specification MIL-C-27487, these couplings are used by the US military nationwide. Anodized Aluminum couplings made to the Mill spec can be special ordered.

Certification

General certificates of conformance available for stock parts. Since most parts are made to stock, full material trace certification (MTR) may be subject to special quotation and extended delivery.

Threads (ANSI B2.1-1968)

Couplings including the SNAPLOCK® Camlock line are designed to seal when threaded to a pipe. Manufactured in National pipe thread (NPT) in both Male NPT and Female NPT Threaded ends.

Non-threaded ends

Hose barb ends are found on the Type C and Type E. The hose barb is typically double ribbed, multi ribbed hose barbs can be manufactured on request as well as socket weld, butt weld or flange ends.

Handles:

  • SS 304 handles for Stainless Steel and Polypropylene couplings. Brass handles for Brass and aluminum camlocks.

Pull Rings

  • Standard with all handles for easy opening.

Safety pins:

  • All female couplers come standard with safety pins that can lock the handles in place for extra security. Safety pins are not needed under normal working conditions.

CAM & GROOVE GASKETS

All metallic camlock fittings come standard with Buna Nitrile (Buna N) gaskets, While EPDM gaskets are standard for Polypropylene for added chemical resistance. Additional sizes and Material are available on request. We can supply PTFE (Teflon) gaskets, as well as manufacture up to 10" gaskets for special orders.
