MIP stands for Male Iron Pipe. MIP threads are a type of National Pipe Taper (NPT) thread. NPT threads are the standard for pipe fittings in the United States. MIP threads are male threads, which means they are designed to fit into a corresponding female thread. MIP threads are often used in heavy-duty threaded pipe connections. They are commonly found in residential homes and are usually found on the ends of valves intended for use with copper tubing.

MIP threads can be used in systems that require high pressure, such as industrial piping systems. They are also commonly used to connect a gas line to a gas dryer, range, water heater, or furnace. MIP threads are not always made of iron.

They are commonly made from steel and brass as well. MIP threads are designed to fit into a corresponding female thread. FIP stands for Female Iron Pipe. FIP fittings have threads on the inside.
